Commissioned Art Work FAQs
This is a general overview. Complete details will be made available as part of the contracting process.
1. What is a commissioned work of art?
In addition to art work originating from my own inspiration, I accept requests to create custom works of art for personal or commercial use.
2. What types of commissioned art work do you work on?
I look for projects where there is a mutual fit between your vision and my style, interests, and experience. Prior to submitting a request, please spend time reviewing my current portfolio to familiarize yourself with my work.
Examples of common requests include;
Personal subjects (ex. a pet, boat, house, bridal bouquets, etc.)
General subjects (ex. a specific type of bird or location landscape)
3. How do I request commissioned art work?
Submit a brief description of what you are looking for via my contact page. I will schedule a brief consultation (phone or Zoom) to discuss your project in more detail.
After the consultation I will provide a detailed proposal with a description of the work, final price and timing.
A signed proposal/contract and down payment is required before work begins.
4. What type of reference images are needed?
In most cases I require one or more high resolution, well lit, photographs of the subject . I have also used old photographs to bring back to life a cherished memory.
If you are providing the images I will need to review these prior to approving the project. These images must have been taken by you or have permission to use the images from the photographer.
In some cases I can provide reference images either through research or taking photographs myself. For local commissions, arrangements can be made for me to take photos and do initial sketches on location. Costs associated with time and travel for these activities will be included in the overall proposal for the project.
3. How much does commissioned art work cost?
The price depends on variables such as complexity, materials, size, and whether the final piece(s) will be used for personal or commercial use. I am happy to discuss this more during a consultation.
4. How long will it take to receive commissioned art work?
Timing for completion of the art work depends on my current workload, complexity of the piece, and the art medium used. Once I start the work delivery time on average would be 30 to 60 days for a drawing, and 3-5 months for an oil painting.
